The morning session introduces new language; vocabulary, grammar, idioms. In this session students learn and practice new language with a focus on the four main skills of Speaking, Listening, Writing, and Reading. Tutors use a prescribed text book according to the level of the class.

Everyday English
This session gives students the opportunity to focus on their communication skills. In this session students are encouraged to actively use language features they have recently learnt in order to build their creativity, fluency, and confidence in the language.

This session allows students to focus on specific topics. In this session students are able to apply new language features to specialised topics. Topics are determined by the needs of the class.

General English courses:

Classes cover all language skills - reading, writing, listening and speaking, grammar and vocabulary.

Classes are made up of students from all around the world, and provide students with a great opportunity to practise and improve their English while learning about other cultures.

IELTS preparation courses:
Aim for a high IELTS score!

This exam preparation course will prepare you for the IELTS (International English Language Testing Systems) test. This is the ideal test if you need to study or work where English is the language of communication.

IELTS scores are recognised by universities and colleges, employers, immigration authorities and professional bodies. 

By taking this intensive course, you will be able to prepare yourself for the IELTS. Our experienced IELTS specialists will help you achieve your desired score.

IELTS Listening preparation
The Listening lessons teach you how to listen attentively and answer each of the different question types with step-by-step instructions and plenty of practice tests. You'll learn what the Listening test is all about - what sort of questions and format to expect - and you'll get expert tips.

IELTS Reading preparation
The Reading lessons will teach you how to understand a reading text and find information quickly and efficiently. They will guide you through the specific question types and how to answer them. You'll find out what to expect in the Reading test, how to approach the different sections, and you'll get plenty of expert tips and practice tests to fine tune your reading skills.

IELTS Writing preparation
The Writing lessons will help you prepare for the specific tasks that will be asked of you in the test. The tutorials focus on improving the skills you will need and give you ideas on how to plan your answers. You'll find out what to expect in the IELTS Writing test, what type of writing you'll be asked to do and will get expert tips to make sure you don't run out of time and that your answers are clear and focused.

IELTS Speaking preparation
The Speaking lessons focus on the specific parts of the IELTS Speaking test, with expert tips and practice tests which teach you how to respond. You'll learn what questions to expect in the Speaking test, how to prepare, and what the examiner is looking for.

IELTS examination technical skills & vocabulary lessons.
To succeed in all four sections, examiners will be looking for proper vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure. These vocabulary and academic skills lessons teach you what you need to know to properly demonstrate your English language ability in Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

Study + Work + Live (SWL):


Our SWL course is specifically designed for those students who want to improve their English and build up work experience in Wellington. It is a full time Academic English course with part-time job and accommodation assistance.

Entry Requirements
  • Student Visa + Variation of Condition (VoC)
  • Enrolment: minimum 24 weeks full time
  • English level: must have an IELTS 5.0 (Immigration NZ requirement for VoC)
MFH provides a part-time job assistance assistance. Students are eligible to work part-time up to 20 hours per week.

MFH works with you to seek job opportunities and guides you through the interview process. A successful interview may lead to a job opportunity according to your English ability and previous work experience.



Business English + Internship:

Specifically designed to improve the English language skills of those who wish to develop effective communication in the business sector, and who want to seek a job in their specific field.

Entry Requirements
  • Working Holiday or Student Visa (18 years and above)
  • 4 Weeks English Course Enrolment
  • English Level: Intermediate or above



English + Travel NZ - MFH exclusive Magic Escape Programme:

For students who have a Visitor/Student or Working Holiday Visa and want to study English and then explore New Zealand at their own pace. This is a great opportunity to travel together with fellow students, or solo, and see major tourist destinations of their choice, all with improved English skills!

Private Tuition
For individuals or small groups

Private Tuition is one on one, or small group tuition that is very effective in perfecting the areas of the English language that you need most help with. Tuition is based on what the learner wants to achieve and is focused on enhancing learning at all levels.

Private tuition is for anyone that has the need to improve their English level. The tuition held on the MFH premises during work hours or afterwards.



Intake dates:

Every Monday except during the 2-week Christmas holiday period. Two week minimum enrolment.

Study Pathways

Once you reach IELTS 5.0 or equivalent, you will be eligible to enter our Pathway programme from Certificate Level 4 right up to Diploma Level 6 qualification.
