Government Funded Projects

As an approved eligible Workplace Literacy provider, MFH provides Tertiary Education Commission funded WPL programmes. They  is a direct outcome of consultation with a wide range of stakeholders including Department of Labour, ITOs, employers, community contacts and learners.

We have received positive feedback from different quarters.
Work and Income NZ (WINZ) Programme Co-ordinator Mathew Mathai, has confirmed that his team are enthusiastic about introducing such a programme to their rapidly growing number of clients in the wake of current economic environment which has rendered a number of people jobless.

MFH has worked towards building and consolidating its connections and partnerships with a broad range of migrant related organisations and local WINZ offices and branches.  MFH is confident that its strong ties in the communities of target students will enable it to recruit those most suited to the Programme.

MindMenu Programme

Employers and stakeholders who participate in our current Literacy programme become more and more confident and excited about the result and contribution of such a programme to the development of their businesses.

“I was pleased with the initial interest shown by a large number of our staff (40+) in joining the programme, however have been thrilled with the results achieved by those who have participated. For the hotel my main observation is the obvious confidence many staff have gained.

This confidence has then translated into them being generally happier at work, being able to communication more easily and interact with guests.”

“The MindMenu programme has made a huge difference to the lives of at least two staff members in that one has learnt enough English to enrol himself on a compute course, and another has been successful at gaining her drivers licence….”

- General Manager of Museum Hotel
Kathy Tipler

“...MIndMenu programme is tailored to suit the individual’s needs. The flexibility of having the tutors come to the workplace means the staff are able to work their study around their work schedules.

“Since starting MindMenu there is a lot more confidence in communication in general, and supervisors are commenting that it has made a great contribution to getting daily tasks accomplished more efficiently.”

- Executive Housekeeping Manager of Bolton Hotel
Zlata Karalic

“ The newcomer community is a significant part of the Wellington regional population.  There are many programmes to support the inclusion of these folk into our community, but the success of these programmes is dependant on the newcomer’s grasp of English, Literacy and Numeracy. MFH delivers education and training to this very important community.”

“Adult literacy provision in Wellington can only be enhanced by the existence of strong effective and efficient regional providers. MFH has particular skills, knowledge and expertise in delivering services to the new migrant communities.  I include the Pacific Island community in this group, because many Pacific Island folk, including those who have lived in New Zealand for many years still use their native tongue for most of their communication.”

- Labour Market Knowledge Manager
Department of Labour and the Chairman of Wellington
Federation of Workplace Literacy Providers
Mike Styles

“Several successful cases of our learners would have not dreamed of the changes to their career development and lives without the MindMenu programme. Mindmenu is a workplace upskilling programme available to existing hospitality staff with learning needs in literacy, numeracy, language or general communication. It is a flexible programme designed to meet the unique needs of employers and employees in the hospitality industry. …I encourage you to enroll staff that might benefit from this programme, which I believe is of great value to the hospitality industry.”

- CEO of Hospitality Standard Institute (HSI)
Steve Hanrahan
